Truth and Numbers

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how angry improperly used statistics make me.  Now, I know that this might seem like a really geeky thing to get upset about, but it’s a type of purposeful (generally, sometimes it’s just ignorant) falseness that upsets most people in other contexts.  Contexts like baseball for example. Imagine [...]

Welcome to the Improved EarthBound Kitchen!

For the first time in over two years, EarthBound Kitchen has been significantly upgraded.  The pages up top are different, so you may want to check them out.  Also, I now have a nifty linked Twitter Feed on the side here, where I plan on mentioning books I’ve been reading as well as upcoming local [...]

The Oil Spill and the Food System

I’ve been ignoring something very important on my blog lately, which is the effect of the oil spill in the Gulf on the food system.  Today I thought I’d start to broach that topic from the bottom up, starting with oysters. Vacation for Jam, eh?

My boss is threatening me.  Unless I bring him a jar or strawberry preserves then I will no longer be allowed to use vacation days that I don’t have.  Not one to compromise my cooking integrity, I’ve refused.  No strawberry preserves for him!  He’ll be getting blackberry preserves in July instead.
